Syncopation creates the sensation of groove in synthesized music examples
George Sioros,Marius Miron,Matthew Davies,Fabien Gouyon,Guy Madison
Frontiers in Psychology , 2014, DOI: 10.3389/fpsyg.2014.01036
Abstract: In order to better understand the musical properties which elicit an increased sensation of wanting to move when listening to music – groove – we investigate the effect of adding syncopation to simple piano melodies, under the hypothesis that syncopation is correlated to groove. Across two experiments we examine listeners’ experience of groove to synthesized musical stimuli covering a range of syncopation levels and densities of musical events, according to formal rules implemented by a computer algorithm that shifts musical events from strong to weak metrical positions. Results indicate that moderate levels of syncopation lead to significantly higher groove ratings than melodies without any syncopation or with maximum possible syncopation. A comparison between the various trans-formations and the way they were rated shows that there is no simple relation between syncopation magnitude and groove.
The influence of competition and dimensionalspatial characteristics of trees on their radial growth in Old-Growth Sl tioara forest, Romania

Advances in Environmental Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: The paper tries to identify how the radial growths of trees from old-growth forests areinfluenced by some forest structural elements, but also how the radial growths depend on the biometriccharacteristics of trees. The analysis was made for mixed natural stands of coniferous and beech fromSl tioara Natural Reserve. All selected natural stands have an uneven-aged structure. The main resultshave showed that tree diameter influences the radial growth especially in the case of shadow intolerantspecies (Norway spruce); when the preferences for light are decreasing, the correlation level betweenthe two mentioned characteristics is also decreasing (beech, silver fir). The influence of neighbouringcompetitors on the radial growths of trees from the three main species was determined. The first tencompetitor trees were identified and their competition on the reference trees was calculated according tothe Hegyi pattern. It was found that, in natural uneven-aged stands, radial growths are mostly influencedby the competition exerted by the first nine competitor neighbours for Norway spruce, the first twocompetitor neighbours for silver fir and the first seven in case of beech. The competing neighbours thatmostly influence the radial growth were analysed with respect to their azimuth against the referencetrees. It was observed that the radial growths of Norway spruce are mostly influenced by the competitorslocated in S and SE. For silver fir and beech the highest influence over the radial growths comes from thecompetitors located in NE and E.

Role identity and its implications in the athlete’s personal development

Timisoara Physical Education and Rehabilitation Journal , 2010,
Abstract: Purpose. This study seeks to highlight the strong identification of athletes with the role they fulfill and the possible consequences that a limited self-identity can have upon entering a transition phase towards another career outside the sporting world and other social settings.Methods. For accomplishing the goals of this essay I have used the methods of observation and bibliographical study.Conclusions. Analysis reveals that coincidences, both positive and negative, associated with this strong sportive identity, do indeed exist. Sportive identity has been related to improvement of sportive performances rise of self-confidence improvement of the social relations and interactions and diminishment of anxiety. On the other hand, one-dimensional orientation towards achieving sportive excellence, which comes along with competing in the elite class, can have potential psychological and social dangers The high level of identification with the role of an athlete can devalorify a quality education or even completely ignore it in some of the development stages, thus taking away from the athletes’ important competences necessary in the development of the individual.
Sports in postmodern era
Paul Miron
Timisoara Physical Education and Rehabilitation Journal , 2009,
Abstract: The present study tries to make a resume from a socio-cultural point of view of the sportiv peisage analized in the evolutionof society trying to answer some questions such as: What is the place of sports in our modern society? How does sportinfluence social and cultural evolutions? What are the cultural tendencies which can be distinguished in the sports practice? These are a few questions which could lead to establishing raports between sports, culture and society. Sport is more andmore amrked by the charactersitics of postmoderinsm. New social values are being vehiclated by current generations whichinfluence sportive behaviours. The popularity of sports has a big influence in the process of globalisation of politics, economics and culture. In our days we observe the fact that some contradictions are being manifested: globalisation andindividualisation, sportivisation” and desportivisation”, a culture of health and a culture of amusement and finally, spontaneity and fragmentation compared to the security and autentification of the individual.

Journal of Plant Development , 2008,
Abstract: The paper represents a synthesis of the investigation issues performed in Narnova River’s grassland during the 2006-2007 vegetation periods. Floristic and phytocoenotic composition of vegetation’s grassland was established. Floristic Inventory of Narnova River’s grassland includes 193 species, appertaining to 112 genus and 38 families. Flora was analyzed from taxonomic, bioform, geoelement, ecological index, economical importance points of view. 11 species with different endangered level were identified. Studied phytocoenosis appertain to 15 associations included into 10 alliances, 10 orders and 4 classes.
The Geometry of Myller Configurations. Applications to Theory of Surfaces and Nonholonomic Manifolds
Radu Miron
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: The book contents: the notion of Myller configurations, Darboux frame, fundamental formulae and fundamental theorem of existence. The complete system of invariants allows to introduce the notions of Myller parallelism and concurrence as well as a famous Klein's formula. By way it is obtained an important generalization of the Levi-Civita parallelism. The applications to the theory of surfaces and nonholonomic manifolds end the book.
The Geometry Of Higher-Order Hamilton Spaces; Applications to Hamiltonian Mechanics
Radu Miron
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: The book can be divided in three parts: the Lagrange geometry of order $k$, presented in the first three chapters, the geometrical theory of the dual manifolds $T^{*k}M$ - chapters 4-7 and the geometry of Hamilton spaces of order $k$ and their subspaces, contained in the last four chapters. They are studied directly and as 'dual' geometry, via Legendre transformation.
Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Geometries. Applications to Analytical Mechanics
Radu Miron
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: The aim of the present text is twofold: to provide a compendium of Lagrangian and Hamiltonian geometries and to introduce and investigate new analytical Mechanics: Finslerian, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian. The fundamental equations (or evolution equations) of these Mechanics are derived from the variational calculus applied to the integral of action and these can be studied by using the methods of Lagrangian or Hamiltonian geometries. More general, the notions of higher order Lagrange or Hamilton spaces have been introduced and developed by the present author. The applications led to the notions of Lagrangian or Hamiltonian Analytical Mechanics of higher order. For short, in this text we aim to solve some difficult problems: The problem of geometrization of classical non conservative mechanical systems; The foundations of geometrical theory of new mechanics: Finslerian, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian; To determine the evolution equations of the classical mechanical systems for whose external forces depend on the higher order accelerations. My colleagues Professors M. Anastasiei, I. Bucataru, I. Mihai, K. Stepanovici made important remarks and suggestions and Mrs. Carmen Savin prepared an excellent print-form of the hand-written text. Many thanks to all of them.
Movements, Associations, Communities - 'The Irregularity' of Charismas and Church Normative
SIKIRI?, Miron
- , 2008,
Abstract: Sa?etak This article deals with the theological and ecclesiological notion of charisma, the mutual immanency of the charisma and institution, the charisma in the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council and Cannon Law and the charisma and movements in the Church. In the title the author surmises relations between the charisma and institution, i.e. new spiritual movements and Church normative. The author concludes that the charisma is always given within the Church as an institution so that it can help her to achieve a balance which is innate to her polarity. Calling her to absolute primacy of the Spirit and relativizing her authority so that it does not become absolutely autocratic, the charisma revives the institution helping her to overcome the obsession of competing with any form of authority which, in the Church, virtually always resulted in the advantage of the hierarchy over the laity and only occasionally the laity over the hierarchy. Considering the relationship between the Church as a visible institution and charismas there should not be any absolutism or excessive intimacy. There is no room for any conflict between either element, between the Church of love and the Church of the law. The charisma does not create conflicts or Church revolutions or turbulence but, above all, in responds to appeals to the eschatological call of the Church. It supports the institution while searching for its own identity, which constantly threatens latent antinomy. The relationship of ?mutual immanency? between the charisma and institution is at the same time an indicator of the methodology and ?style? in the realisation of the charisma. There should never be a lack of care for the ?objective? in this realisation or appeal to authentic faith; finally, there should never be any lack of urgency for every charisma to put themselves to the service of the mysteries of the Church. The charisma itself carries an immanent structure that determines the way it will be achieved in the Church, because immanent structures create rules in life that morally oblige those receiving the charisma even before those rules are sanctioned by Cannon and positive norms. At this level there is a charisma-institution because with the effects of the Spirit, inter-subjective morally obliging duties and rights connected to the charisma emerge from the charisma itself: the Spirit is the source of the charisma and of the institution too. Cannon institutionalisation is just another step that emerges when the Church recognises the charisma as relevant and appropriate to her salvational aim and
